Preserving the patriot spirit through service, education, and leadership

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage society that is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) charitable organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. We help educate our students and recognize the special accomplishments of young people. We work to preserve our history and historical sites. We welcome our new citizens and introduce them to life in America and help care for our veterans and their families. Our Alabama Society has more than 4,000 members in 72 chapters.

First, let me share with you what I’d like to focus our attention on during my term as TTC Regent. I want to thank each of you for joining and becoming a part of our great chapter!  I trust you have found a home here with us and encourage you to get active in one of the numerous committees we have. DAR is a very active organization and I’m sure there is something of interest for everyone.  Don’t be shy!  Join in!  Get involved!

Secondly, our chapter is growing almost on a daily basis which is so exciting!!!  My aim is to encourage members to get to know one another so that no one feels left out in any way. One way we can achieve this is for everyone to wear their name badges at meetings. Each of us can introduce ourselves to new members or to members you have seen but don’t know their names.  This idea is what I refer to as “Getting To Know You,” yes, just like the song in the movie The King And I!  There are other ideas we will be introducing over the course of the year which will enhance this process.

Thirdly, the 200th Anniversary of President James Monroe’s signing of Alabama’s Constitution in 1819 is December 14, 2019. The Bicentennial Celebration has been ongoing since 2016 and will culminate with a big event in Huntsville next year.  There are several projects and events taking place during the next two years and TTC is committed to volunteer and participate as much as we can.  Historical events and restoration projects are important to our historical and cultural story which we are to pass on to future generations.  I’m dedicated to these efforts.  I hope you will be also.
