April 2021 -- First In-person Meeting Since the Pandemic Started
Such a wonderful experience getting back together again. Those members who didn't feel comfortable were able to watch at home via Zoom. Regent Sue Shaver called us to order for a busy meeting. We welcomed Samuel Rice of Holy Spirit School, who is Twickenham Town Chapter's American History Essay Contest winner and the Alabama State winner. He read his essay on the Boston Massacre and received his awards.
We recognized Good Citizens from four local high schools and recognized Ava Watson, a New Century Technology High School senior, as the Alabama State Good Citizen.
Beth Cagle (National Chair of the Americanism Committee and State Chair of the Good Citizen Committee), Marley Acosta-Lee from Grissom High School, Addisyn Woodruff of Madison County High School, Morgan McKean of Huntsville High School, and Ava Watson of New Century Technology High School.

November 15, 2020 -- Honoring Five Pioneer Suffragists 100 Years After the Passage of the 19th Amendment
The Historic Huntsville Foundation and the Alabama Historical Commission plan to complete five markers on women's suffrage, including one to honor the efforts of Huntsville's African-American women. The Twickenham Town Chapter (TTC), NSDAR, honored five Huntsville pioneer suffragists: Alberta Chapman Taylor; her sister, Ellelee Chapman Humes; Virginia Clay-Clopton; Virginia Clay; and her sister, Susannah Clay. The women were active in the suffragist movement in the 1890s. Because women's suffrage was considered too controversial for the women to meet at the newly-opened YMCA, they met at the home of Alberta Taylor, located at 416 McClung Avenue. Dr. Eric and Mrs. Vicki Janssen, the home's current owners, permitted TTC to install the marker. Thank you to Tori Lawrence Images for the photographs.
