March 2022 Vietnam War Veteran Day
The Twickenham Town Chapter celebrated National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29, 2002 at the Huntsville/Madison County Public Library. We are a Commemorative Partner of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Program. We thanks Vietnam War veterans and their surviving spouses for their sacrifices to their country.

February 2022 Purses With a Purpose, Wallets for Work, and Ties for Success
Janis Simpson, working on our Women's Issues Committee, assembled and delivered accessories donated by members of Twickenham Town Chapter. The ties, purses, shoes, and wallets are so helpful to those interviewing for jobs to project their best image. We donated the accessories to the Christian Job Corps. Donors added notes of encouragement in the purses and wallets.
February 2022 Kate Duncan Smith DAR School -- Past Presidents' Day
Mrs. Owens' second grade class was dressed in historical clothing and ready to read and to learn. Susan Sommers made the clothing the children wore, her own clothing, and some worn by the other women. We have permission to post the children's photos. Thank you to Tori Lawrence for the photographs.
February 2022 Grave Marking of Reuben Stone
We met at the Stone-Fanning family cemetery to mark the grave of Reuben Stone, who arrived in north Alabama in 1808. We were joined by the North Alabama Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, their color guard, and descendants of Reuben Stone.
February 2022 Regular Meeting
dIt was a very busy meeting. We recognized our high school Good Citizens. Bill Sommers, dressed in appropriate attire, taught us about money in the early American period. We inducted new members into our Twickenham Town Chapter. And we recognized former Regent Cynthia Sackett.
February 2022 Outstanding Teacher of American History
Historian Sophia Burwell (on left) announces: Michele Olejnik (center) is Twickenham Town Chapter's nominee for Outstanding Teacher of American History for 2022. Ms. Olejnik is a teacher of government, politics, AP macroeconomics and economics at Huntsville High School. Regent Sue Shaver is on the right.
January 2022 Regular Meeting
Jim Griffith, Secretary of the Alabama Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, presented to us a series of videos designed to teach people about the Revolutionary War. Mr. Griffith is a past president of the Tennessee Valley Chapter (TVC) of the SAR. The TVC's videos are very professionally prepared by local members, interesting, and well worth watching. December 2021: Christmas Tea
Twickenham Town Chapter members are so grateful we were able to gather to share in the Christmas season with a tea and to celebrate Alabama's 102nd birthday as a state.
November 2021: Placing Wreaths on the Graves of Veterans
Members placed wreaths on veterans' graves at Valhalla Cemetery, Maple Hill Cemetery, Harris Hill Cemetery, Bellview Cemetery, and several cemeteries on the old family farms.
November 2021: National Defense Luncheon
Twickenham Town Chapter hosted the National Defense Luncheon on November 9, 2021 at the Huntsville Country Club.
Our guest speaker was Mary Ann Hotalling, 2020 Ms. Veteran of America. She spoke about her first-generation American heritage and brought her Argentine mother with her to the luncheon. Having served in the U.S. Army and retiring as a Captain, she introduced us to her passionate efforts to help the plight of homeless women veterans. Zig Jastrebski and his assistants shared the emotional experience of a table set for a meal for a veteran who never returns home -- the Missing Man Table.

November 2021: National Native American Heritage Month
Members of the Twickenham Town Chapter traveled to the Florence, AL area to have lunch at the Rattlesnake Saloon and to visit the Florence Indian Mound and Museum.
The mayors of Huntsville and Madison proclaimed November Native American Month. Susan Elrod and our Native American Committee set up a display of Native American artifacts, art, and books at the Huntsville/Madison County Library.
TTC's Book Club studied two books (A Warrior of the People and Pocahontas) about American Indians this year. We also donated monies to purchase several books on American Indians for the Huntsville Public Library. Check them out!
October 2021: Kate Duncan DAR School Dedication Days
The Alabama Society DAR established the school in 1924, naming it in honor of Kate Duncan Smith, a dedicated leader of NSDAR in Alabama. Each year in October, NSDAR and the Alabama State DAR celebrate its dedication with a two-day event. Thank you to Tori Lawrence for her photographs.

October 2021: Mt. Paran Campground & Cemetery -- Patriot Grave Marking
The Alabama Brigade Society of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, Maple Hill Chapter NSDAR,
Twickenham Town Chapter NSDAR, and Tennessee Valley Chapter SAR joined together to dedicate markers to three patriots: Jacob Caulk, Moses Poor, and Samuel Davis. The historic cemetery is located in New Market, Alabama. Thank you to Tori Lawrence for her photographs.

October 2021: Dedication of Our Never Forget Garden in Maple Hill Cemetery
On Sunday TTC held a ceremony to dedicate our Never Forget Garden in Maple Hill Cemetery. The garden reminds the visitor of the great sacrifices of our veterans. The marker itself is a nod to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The Tomb marks its 100th anniversary this year.
October 2021: Literacy Community Event
Our members spread the advantages of literacy at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School. Thank you to Tori Lawrence for her photographs.
September 2021 Meeting
The meeting was our first organizational one for the year. Our speakers were Linda Upton and Patsy Lawrence, who spoke about their Native American ancestry.
August 2021 American Village Dedication
Twickenham Town Chapter Members at American Village at Montevallo, AL where the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated the state’s only Revolutionary War Patriots marker in a morning ceremony.
